Proteic cocoa ice cream for toddlers and the whole family

Hey there dear families!

While we were figuring out what to do with the only orange sweet potato we had left at home, Safira asked for ice cream! And who can judge her with this typical portuguese heat (+30ºC)!

We don't like to offer ice creams with sugar since it aggravates her ADHD symptoms, just like ours. So I thought about inventing something with the natural complex carbs that exist in fruits and vegetables, since we also had a few very ripe bananas in the freezer and a 100g milk chocolate bar enriched with vitamin D and FOS (fructo-oligosaccharides) sweetened with coconut sugar, which is rich in nutrients like potassium, zinc, iron and magnesium.

The first thing I did was to peel the sweet potato, cut it into pieces and boil it until soft (it took around 15 minutes). I poured the water out and putted the cooked sweet potato in our food processor. It was still hot so it was time to add the chocolate in pieces so it melts easily. After a few minutes I turned it on and it was all beautifully melted! When I tasted it, I felt like it was good for me, since I rarely eat sugar, but not for Safira. So I added a frozen banana to make it sweeter, blended it in the processor and it worked perfectly!

It just didn't taste a lot like chocolate...

We always prepare our pre-workout meals with cookies & cream whey protein from Prozis. It's the best taste, in our opinion! But before that one, we bought the one that tastes like chocolate. The pre-workout porridge doesn't taste as good with that protein, so we left it for other situations (like mixing it with a vegetable milk for example).

So I thought about addind a 30g scoop to the ice cream dough, to make taste more like chocolate and also make it a proteic super healthy ice cream for my daughter and for us!

The only missing thing to make it the perfect treat was a source of fat. So I added around 30g of almond butter also from Prozis. And we mixed it all again, and voilá!

The perfect ice cream!

We used all the creative molds we had at home: heart-shapes, cat-shapes, teddy bear-shapes and the regular popsicles, and putted it right into the freezer!

She loved it, and we loved it too!
